Ben Shaw

Principal

Ben established Dunham Shaw after almost two decades in practice, including as a partner of national and international firms. During his career, Ben has acted for international and national banks and financiers, insolvency practitioners, large and small businesses and individuals.

Ben is a Fellow of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency & Turnaround Association (ARITA), and a member of its Queensland Committee. Ben regularly presents at industry conferences and has authored over 35 publications on insolvency, banking, and property law topics. He is also a member of the editorial panel of the LexisNexis Australian Banking & Finance Law Bulletin.

Notable matters have included:

  • Acting for the liquidators appointed to a company developing the world’s largest prawn farm on a remote NT cattle station.
  • Acting for an international bank in a dispute with a foreign Government-owned corporation concerning the recovery of approx. 12,000 livestock, culminating in an approx. USD$200M claim in the Singapore International Arbitration Centre.
  • Acting for a Japanese trading house in an approx. $100M claim concerning a metallurgical coal mine in the Bowen Basin
  • Acting for a director of the responsible entity of managed investment schemes investigated by ASIC, and the subject of a class-action
  • Acting for a regional bank in the recovery of approx. $55 million debt secured by properties across Queensland.
  • Acting (pro bono, via referral from LawRight) for victims of elder abuse.

Mackenzie Gunn

Associate

Mackenzie acts for and advises companies, their officers and external administrators on various matters arising under the Corporations Act.

Her experience includes State and Federal Court proceedings involving commercial recoveries, breaches of directors’ statutory and fiduciary duties, shareholder disputes, partnership disputes, property and joint venture disputes, ASIC investigations, construction disputes and contractual disputes.

She is also experienced in personal bankruptcy advice and litigation.

Mackenzie is admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia.
